Where East Meets West: The Story Behind Our Peranakan-Inspired Ceramic Collection
More Than Dinnerware—A Story of Cultures, Craftsmanship, and Everyday Beauty. Some collections begin with a pattern. Ours began with a journey. Across the historic trading ports of Southeast Asia, generations of Chinese immigrants, Malay traditions, European lifestyles, and Indonesian batik craftsmanship came together to create one of the world’s most fascinating cultural identities—the Peranakan, also known as the Straits Chinese. This ceramic collection is our contemporary interpretation of that remarkable heritage. Rather than copying history, we transformed its spirit into a tableware collection designed for today’s homes around the world.
A Heritage Woven Across Oceans
The Peranakan story is one of cultural exchange. Chinese artisans brought symbolic floral motifs representing prosperity and happiness. Malay craftsmanship introduced vibrant tropical colors inspired by nature. Indonesian batik contributed intricate geometric borders, layered patterns, and the beauty of handcrafted imperfections. British colonial influence shaped elegant tea rituals and Western dining etiquette. These influences didn’t compete. They blended. The result was a completely new visual language—rich, colorful, welcoming, and unmistakably unique.
Batik Reimagined on New Bone China
Instead of printing traditional batik directly onto ceramics, we reinterpreted its visual rhythm. Large blooming florals spread across the surface much like handcrafted batik textiles. Fine decorative borders echo the repetitive geometry found in Southeast Asian wax-resist fabrics. Subtle crackle-inspired textures recall the natural lines created when cooling wax gently fractures during the batik dyeing process. Together, these details create depth, movement, and a handcrafted character that invites a closer look. Every meal becomes a canvas of color and culture.
Chinese Florals Meet Tropical Gardens
The floral artwork tells another story. Graceful peonies symbolize prosperity and abundance in Chinese culture. Tropical hibiscus flowers celebrate the vibrant landscapes of Southeast Asia. Together they create a garden that belongs to neither East nor West alone—but to the shared heritage of the Peranakan world. Rich blues, warm reds, soft golds, and botanical greens bring energy to the table while remaining timeless enough for everyday living.

While the decoration draws inspiration from heritage, the forms are unmistakably contemporary.
